In 1965, the wrecker service was added utilizing just one small wrecker. Over the years, several other wreckers were added to the fleet. In 1973, “Mack’s” youngest son, Ricky Matthews, joined the business. In 1991, “Mack” retired and passed the business on to his son, Ricky. More employees were added and more wreckers were added. In 1993, Ricky’s son, Jeremy Matthews, joined the family business. At first Jeremy was just a mechanic in the car shop. In 1994, Jeremy started driving a wrecker for the business. In 1996, Matthews’ Garage added a NRC slider to their fleet known as “The General”. In between adding wreckers to their fleet, Matthews’ Garage added a truck shop and a body shop with a paint booth. With the addition of the two shops Matthews was able to start assembling its very own trucks. In the middle of such a big turning point for the company, Matthews Garage suffered a great loss at the end of 2003. The originator of Matthews’ Garage,”Mack”Matthews, passed away on Dec. 29th, 2003. The following year, three trucks were built at the shop and added to our fleet all in dedication to Mack “The one who started it all”. Designed for precision, reach, and lifting capacity, these machines are critical for complex recovery operations, accident scenes, and heavy lifting tasks. Call Now Heavy-Duty Towing Power Rotators are some of the largest and strongest tow trucks in service. Equipped with a 360-degree rotating boom, these trucks can handle major recovery operations, including overturned tractor-trailers, buses, and other large commercial vehicles. Our heavy-duty rotator units can safely lift and recover loads of up to 85 tons, ensuring that every job is completed efficiently, safely, and professionally. Why Our Rotator Makes Heavy Recovery Safer & Faster Handling Challenging Positions Accidents don’t always happen on flat ground. Vehicles often end up in ditches, embankments, or uneven terrain—especially during icy, wet, or low-visibility conditions. Rotator cranes are ideal for these scenarios. With an extendable boom that can reach high and rotate a full 360 degrees, our operators can recover vehicles from difficult or restricted areas quickly and safely. Efficient Heavy Recovery Recovering large vehicles on busy highways can be dangerous and logistically complex. Light-duty towing is designed for passenger cars, light trucks, and SUVs, focusing on quick, efficient service for breakdowns, accidents, and vehicle removal. It typically uses equipment such as wheel-lift systems, winches, and standard tow trucks to ensure vehicles are moved safely without unnecessary cost or delay. Heavy-duty towing, on the other hand, is built for large commercial vehicles and complex recovery situations. This level of service relies on specialized equipment including heavy-duty wreckers, rotators, high-capacity winches, and experienced operators trained to manage demanding recoveries. Before the roll-off dumpster arrives, you need a clear drop-off area, enough space for the delivery truck, and a basic understanding of what can and cannot go inside the container. Whether you are cleaning out a home, removing remodeling debris, handling roofing materials, or managing construction waste, a little planning can prevent delays and placement issues. Knowing how to prepare for delivery day can also help protect your property and make the dumpster easier to load once your project begins. Choose the Right Dumpster Size Choosing the right dumpster size helps your project run more smoothly from the start. If the dumpster is too small, you may fill it before the job is finished and need another haul. If it is too large, it may take up more space than necessary in your driveway, parking area, or jobsite. The right size depends on the type of project, the amount of debris, and the space available for dumpster delivery. A small cleanout may not need the same size container as a roofing project, remodeling job, or large property cleanup. Before scheduling delivery, think through what you plan to throw away and how much material the project may create. Common projects that may require different dumpster sizes include: Small home cleanouts Basement or garage cleanouts Remodeling debris Roofing materials Construction waste Large property cleanups Estimating the size early helps prevent extra trips, placement problems, and delays once the... - Published: 2026-08-10 - Modified: 2026-06-23 - URL: https://matthewsgarage.com/body-shop/what-happens-during-car-frame-repair-after-a-collision/ - Categories: Body Shop - Tags: Car Frame Repair After a collision, car frame repair may be one of the most important steps in getting your vehicle back to a safe and reliable condition. While dents, scratches, and broken panels are often the most obvious signs of damage, the impact can also affect the frame or structural components that support the vehicle. This type of repair helps restore the structure of a vehicle after a crash. The process can include inspection, measuring, straightening, alignment checks, panel repair, and refinishing. When handled properly, frame repair can help improve the way your vehicle drives, protects passengers, and holds up after collision damage.   Why Frame Damage Matters After a Collision Frame damage can affect more than the way your vehicle looks after an accident. The frame helps support the body of the vehicle, keeps key parts properly positioned, and plays an important role in how the vehicle handles on the road. When that structure bends, shifts, or weakens, it can create safety and performance issues that are not always easy to see. Even a minor collision can cause hidden damage beneath the surface. A vehicle may start showing warning signs that something is off, including: Pulling to one side while driving Uneven gaps around the doors, hood, or trunk Strange noises while driving Uneven tire wear Visible bending, cracking, or misalignment Address frame damage early to help protect the long-term safety and reliability of your vehicle. A proper inspection can show whether the collision affected the structure and whether the vehicle... - Published: 2026-07-20 - Modified: 2026-05-28 - URL: https://matthewsgarage.com/crane-service/when-should-contractors-plan-crane-service-in-advance/ - Categories: Crane Service - Tags: Planning Crane Service Contractors often work around tight schedules, material deliveries, crew availability, equipment needs, and changing jobsite conditions. When a project requires heavy lifting, waiting too long to schedule crane service can create delays that affect the entire timeline. Planning ahead helps contractors coordinate the right equipment, operators, delivery windows, and site access before the lift is needed. Whether the job involves placing heavy materials, moving machinery, or supporting a critical project phase, advanced scheduling can make the work safer, smoother, and more efficient. Why Crane Service Should Be Part of the Project Plan Crane Service should not be treated as a last-minute detail. If a project depends on heavy lifting, contractors need to plan for the crane before the work reaches that stage. Waiting too long can affect delivery timing, crew schedules, equipment access, and the overall project timeline. Planning ahead also helps match the right crane and operator to the job. Every lift is different. The weight of the load, the available space, the placement location, and the jobsite layout all matter. When contractors schedule crane service early, the team has more time to review the lift requirements and prepare for a safer, more efficient process. A delayed lift can also delay other crews. If materials, machinery, or equipment cannot be moved into place, the next phase of the project may have to wait. Including Crane Service in the project plan helps contractors avoid rushed decisions and keep work moving. Before Heavy Materials or Equipment Arrive Contractors should plan crane... - Published: 2026-07-06 - Modified: 2026-05-28 - URL: https://matthewsgarage.com/towing-recovery/what-is-winching-and-when-does-a-vehicle-need-it/ - Categories: Towing Recovery - Tags: Winching Getting stuck can happen faster than most drivers expect. One wrong turn onto soft ground, a slide into a ditch, heavy rain, loose gravel, or an accident can leave your vehicle unable to move safely on its own. When the tires keep spinning but the vehicle is not going anywhere, you may need more than a standard tow. That is where winching comes in.   Winching is a recovery method used to pull a vehicle out of a stuck or unsafe position so it can get back on solid ground or be safely towed. For drivers dealing with mud, ditches, slopes, off-road areas, or accident recovery, professional winching can help prevent further damage and make the situation safer from the start. What Is Winching? Winching is the process of using a powered cable system to pull a vehicle out of a stuck, unstable, or hard-to-reach position. A tow truck or recovery vehicle uses a strong cable or synthetic line that connects to a secure point on the vehicle. Once attached properly, the winch pulls the vehicle slowly and carefully until it reaches safer ground. Winching works differently than regular towing. A tow truck usually transports a vehicle that is already accessible and ready to move. A recovery operator uses winching when a vehicle cannot safely move on its own or when a tow truck cannot easily reach it. For example, a car in a ditch, a truck stuck in mud, or a vehicle that slid off a driveway may need... - Published: 2026-06-22 - Modified: 2026-05-04 - URL: https://matthewsgarage.com/towing-services/towing-service-guide-light-duty-vs-heavy-duty-towing/ - Categories: Towing Services - Tags: Light-Duty vs. Heavy-Duty Towing A towing service is not one-size-fits-all. The type of tow truck and equipment needed will depend on the size of the vehicle, the situation, and how safely the vehicle can be moved. A standard car with a flat tire does not require the same towing setup as a semi-truck, box truck, bus, or heavy commercial vehicle. Understanding light-duty and heavy-duty towing can help you know what to request when you call. This blog explains how each towing service works and when each one is needed. It also explains why sharing the right information helps Matthews Garage provide safe, reliable roadside support. What Is Light-Duty Towing? Light-duty towing is typically used for smaller vehicles and more common roadside situations. This type of towing service is often the right choice when a standard passenger vehicle cannot be safely driven because of a breakdown, flat tire, dead battery, accident, or mechanical issue. It also serves as a protective layer against sun exposure, changing temperatures, road debris, moisture, and everyday wear. When that finish starts to fade, chip, peel, or lose its shine, your vehicle can become more vulnerable to long-term exterior damage. During hot, sunny months, car paint often faces extra stress. Direct sunlight, high temperatures, gravel, bugs, dirt, and loose debris can all affect the way your vehicle looks and holds up over time. Understanding how these factors damage your paint can help you catch problems early and know when it is time to contact Matthews Garage for professional paint repair or refinishing. How Does Heat Affect Car Paint? Heat can take a toll on car paint, especially when a vehicle sits in direct sunlight for long periods. As the exterior surface heats up, the paint and clear coat can expand. When temperatures cool down again, those materials contract. Over time, this repeated cycle can weaken the finish and make existing paint problems more noticeable. High heat can also speed up oxidation, which can cause the paint to look dull, faded, or chalky. This is especially common on older vehicles or vehicles that already have worn clear coat. Once the protective top layer starts to break down, the color underneath may lose its shine and become more vulnerable to further damage. Heat can also make small scratches, chips, and imperfections worse. If a section of paint is already damaged,... - Published: 2026-05-25 - Modified: 2026-04-02 - URL: https://matthewsgarage.com/towing-services/what-to-do-while-waiting-for-towing-services/ - Categories: Towing Services Breaking down on the side of the road can be stressful, especially when you are unsure what to do next. Whether it is a flat tire, engine trouble, or an accident, being stuck and waiting can leave you feeling uncertain. While towing services are on the way, the steps you take during that time matter more than you might think. Knowing how to handle the situation can help keep you safe, reduce stress, and make the process smoother once help arrives. By staying prepared and taking a few simple precautions, you can manage the wait with confidence and avoid unnecessary risks. Move Your Vehicle to a Safe Location If your vehicle is still drivable, your first priority should be getting out of traffic and into a safer area. Pull over to the shoulder, a nearby parking lot, or any location that puts distance between you and moving vehicles. Even a short move can significantly reduce the risk of an accident. If your vehicle cannot be moved, stay inside with your seatbelt on, especially if you are on a busy road or highway. Standing outside near traffic can be dangerous, particularly in low visibility conditions. Keeping yourself protected inside the vehicle is often the safest choice until towing services arrive. Make Yourself Visible to Other Drivers Visibility is one of the most important factors when waiting for towing services, especially if you are stopped on the side of the road. Other drivers need enough time to recognize your vehicle, slow down,... - Published: 2026-05-11 - Modified: 2026-04-02 - URL: https://matthewsgarage.com/logistics-services/how-logistics-planning-prevents-delays-in-heavy-equipment-transport/ - Categories: Logistics Services Heavy equipment transport plays a critical role in keeping construction, agriculture, and industrial projects on schedule. When equipment arrives late, it can bring entire job sites to a halt, leading to missed deadlines, increased labor costs, and unnecessary frustration. That is why planning is not just helpful, it is essential. Strong logistics planning helps prevent these issues by organizing every step of the heavy equipment transport process before the job even begins. From mapping out routes and securing permits to coordinating timing and equipment, a well-planned approach keeps everything moving efficiently. Instead of reacting to problems, businesses can stay ahead of them and ensure equipment arrives safely and on time. Why Delays Happen in Heavy Equipment Transport Delays in heavy equipment transport are often preventable, but they tend to happen when key details are overlooked early in the process. What may seem like a small issue at the start can quickly turn into a major setback once transport is underway. One of the most common causes is poor route planning. Not every road is suitable for oversized or overweight loads, and failing to account for restrictions like low bridges, narrow roads, or weight limits can force unexpected detours. These last-minute changes not only slow things down but can also create safety risks. Permit and compliance issues are another major factor. Heavy equipment transport often requires specific permits that vary by state or municipality. If those permits are delayed, incorrect, or missing altogether, transport can be held up before it even... - Published: 2026-04-20 - Modified: 2026-03-10 - URL: https://matthewsgarage.com/crane-service/why-contractors-rely-on-crane-services-for-heavy-lifting/ - Categories: Crane Service Construction projects often involve materials and equipment that are simply too large or heavy to move with standard tools. Steel beams, large machinery, building materials, and structural components all require careful handling to be lifted safely and placed precisely. This is where professional crane services become essential. Contractors rely on cranes and experienced operators to handle complex lifting tasks that would otherwise slow down projects or create safety risks. With the right equipment and skilled professionals, crane services help keep job sites safe, efficient, and on schedule. What Are Crane Services? Crane services involve using specialized lifting equipment to move heavy objects that cannot be handled with traditional machinery or manual labor. Cranes are designed to lift, transport, and position large loads with precision, making them a critical part of many construction and industrial operations. Professional crane service providers supply both the equipment and the experienced operators needed to perform safe lifts. Operators are trained to assess load weight, determine proper rigging techniques, and position materials exactly where they need to go. Modern cranes are built to handle a wide range of lifting challenges, from placing construction materials on upper levels of buildings to relocating large industrial equipment. Common Projects That Require Crane Services Many different industries depend on crane services to complete complex lifting tasks. Construction Projects Construction sites frequently require cranes to move heavy materials and structural components. These may include: Steel beams Concrete panels Roofing materials Prefabricated building sections Large HVAC units Cranes allow contractors to lift... - Published: 2026-04-13 - Modified: 2026-03-10 - URL: https://matthewsgarage.com/dumpster-services/dumpster-sizes-explained-choosing-the-right-one-for-you/ - Categories: Dumpster Services Renting a dumpster is one of the easiest ways to manage debris during cleanouts, renovations, and construction projects. However, many homeowners and contractors aren’t sure which dumpster size they actually need. Choosing the wrong size can lead to unnecessary costs, limited space for debris, or the need to schedule another pickup. Understanding common dumpster sizes and how they match different types of projects can help you avoid delays and keep your cleanup running smoothly. This guide explains how dumpster sizes work and how to choose the right one for your project. Why Choosing the Right Dumpster Size Matters Selecting the proper dumpster size is more important than many people realize. The right choice can save time, improve job site organization, and prevent extra fees. Avoid Paying for More Than You Need Renting a larger dumpster than necessary may increase your costs. While larger containers provide more space, many projects only require a mid-sized option. Choosing the correct size helps keep disposal costs under control. Prevent Overfilling Issues Dumpsters cannot be filled above the top rail. If debris sticks out above the edge, the container may not be safely transported. When this happens, you may need to remove debris or order another container. Improve Job Site Efficiency The right dumpster size helps keep your project organized. Contractors, homeowners, and cleanup crews can dispose of debris quickly without worrying about space limitations. Common Roll Off Dumpster Sizes Roll-off dumpsters come in a range of sizes designed for different types of projects. But many customers quickly realize they are unsure about what they are actually allowed to throw away. Following proper dumpster rental guidelines is important. It prevents unexpected fees, avoids pickup delays, and ensures you stay compliant with local disposal regulations. Whether you are managing a construction site, renovating your home, or cleaning out a property, knowing what can and cannot go into a dumpster will save you time and money. Here is a clear breakdown to help you load your dumpster the right way. What Is a Roll-Off Dumpster? A roll-off dumpster is a large, open-top container delivered to your home, job site, or business location. It is commonly used for: Construction and demolition projects Roofing jobs Property cleanouts Remodeling and renovation Landscaping projects The dumpster is delivered, placed on-site, filled at your pace, and then hauled away when you are finished. Because the contents are transported to landfills or disposal facilities, there are specific dumpster rental guidelines that must be followed. These rules exist for environmental protection, landfill safety, and transportation regulations. What You CAN Put in a Roll Off Dumpster Most common debris from construction, remodeling, and cleanouts is allowed. Here are typical materials that are accepted. Construction and Demolition Debris Drywall Lumber and wood scraps Flooring materials Roofing shingles Siding Non-hazardous insulation Cabinets and countertops These materials are standard for renovation and demolition projects. But one step that often gets overlooked is proper auto body shop preparation. Taking a few simple steps before dropping off your vehicle can save time, reduce stress, and help your repair process move smoothly. Whether you’ve experienced a minor fender bender or significant collision damage, knowing how to prepare your vehicle for vehicle collision repair helps protect you and ensures your body shop can get to work efficiently. Here’s what you should know. Step 1: Contact Your Insurance Company First Before your vehicle ever reaches the body shop, start with your insurance provider. Start the Claim Process Report the accident Obtain a claim number Confirm coverage details Having this information ready prevents delays when your repair shop begins working with your insurer. Understand Your Deductible Make sure you know: How much you are responsible for paying Whether rental car coverage is included If there are limits on repair coverage Clear communication up front eliminates surprises later. Ask About Repair Shop Options Some insurance companies suggest “preferred” shops. However, you typically have the right to choose your own collision repair facility. Selecting a trusted shop ensures your vehicle is repaired correctly. Step 2: Document the Damage Thoroughly Even if the accident was minor, detailed documentation protects you. Take Clear Photos Photograph: All exterior damage Interior damage The license plate The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) The overall vehicle condition Good documentation supports your claim and creates a record... - Published: 2026-02-27 - Modified: 2026-02-11 - URL: https://matthewsgarage.com/equipment-hauling/when-a-load-shifts-how-recovery-teams-protect-your-cargo/ - Categories: Equipment Hauling A shifted load can turn a routine haul into a serious safety hazard in seconds. What starts as a sudden lean in the trailer or a strange pull on the steering wheel can quickly escalate into rollover risk, cargo damage, highway closures, and major financial loss. For fleet managers and commercial drivers, a load shift is more than an inconvenience. It is a liability event. The way it is handled determines whether the situation stays controlled or spirals into a costly incident. This guide explains what causes load shifts, what to do immediately, and how professional load shift recovery and heavy duty recovery teams protect your cargo, equipment, and reputation. What Is a Load Shift? A load shift occurs when cargo moves from its secured position during transport. Even small movement inside a trailer can alter weight distribution, placing uneven stress on axles and suspension systems. Common Causes of Load Shifts Load shifts can happen for several reasons: Sudden braking Sharp turns at highway speeds Improper load securement Uneven weight distribution Road hazards or collisions Wet or icy conditions Shifting pallets or unsecured heavy machinery Even experienced drivers can encounter unexpected road conditions that cause cargo movement. Warning Signs of a Load Shift Drivers may notice: Trailer leaning to one side Steering instability Difficulty maintaining lane position Suspension strain Unusual tire wear Visible cargo movement when inspecting the trailer Ignoring these warning signs can lead to rollovers or jackknife accidents. It can shut down lanes, delay loads, create safety hazards, and cost thousands of dollars in lost time. For drivers and fleet managers, every minute matters. Whether you’re dealing with engine failure, a blown tire, or a loaded trailer that won’t move, knowing exactly what to do can protect lives, cargo, and your bottom line. Here’s a step-by-step guide to handling a breakdown safely and getting the right heavy duty towing support fast. Step 1: Prioritize Safety Immediately The first priority is always safety — yours and everyone else on the road. Move the Truck to a Safe Location (If Possible) If the truck is still operational enough to move: Pull as far onto the shoulder as possible Avoid stopping on blind curves or narrow bridges Set the parking brake firmly Turn wheels away from traffic if on an incline If you cannot move the vehicle, stay inside the cab with your seatbelt fastened until it’s safe to exit. Activate Hazard Lights Immediately Turn on hazard lights as soon as trouble begins. Early warning gives approaching drivers more time to slow down or change lanes. Deploy Warning Triangles Federal regulations require warning devices for commercial vehicles. Place reflective triangles: One within 10 feet of the truck One approximately 100 feet behind One approximately 200 feet behind Visibility reduces secondary accidents, especially at night or during poor weather. Step 2: Assess the Situation Without Risking Injury Once the truck is secure, carefully...
